Katy Domsten, LSW, genuinely loves to listen to and support people–and absolutely loves to ask questions. Katy believes that people truly need and want to be seen, heard, and pointed in the right direction—and she is here for all of it.
Since a young age, Katy has naturally been drawn to and sought out opportunities to sit with people in their suffering. Pressing into her gifts of listening and encouragement, Katy continually encounters the need for clients to have people in their life who are safe and trustworthy, yet who are also able to point to unwavering hope.
Katy sees a wide range of clients, typically working with relational difficulties in general or with grief of many forms. Katy also works with eating disorders for men and women, school-related issues (like a child with special needs, bullying, or with parents whose child is struggling), anxiety and depression, women in brokenness, and children.
In addition to her professional training and experience as a Licensed Social Worker (including more than a decade of experience as a school Social Worker), Katy comes to Steeple with a depth of experience working in church ministry, where her biggest passion was meeting with women; it was Katy’s desire for these women to know there was a woman available for them to come in and meet with them, helping them understand themselves and their own stories. To this end, Katy is well-equipped and experienced to help women in ministry, and women hurting or grieving within the church.
Katy’s philosophy of care is simple and compassionately bound up in the eyes of Christ; she always looks at how Jesus interacted with people when he was here on earth, and marvels at what an amazing question-asker he was to ultimately get at the heart. Christ loved people no matter what they brought to him, looking at them with genuine eyes and care. With Jesus as her model, these are the very eyes by which Katy’s clients will be greeted, no matter what they bring to her.
Katy earned her Masters in Social Work at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and her Bachelors from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. As a wife and mom herself, Katy’s life experiences are a balm and comfort to many, as her familiarity with all kinds of situations offers an added depth of understanding, and she believes there is great joy when someone comes alongside you in these struggles. In addition to being married and having children, Katy co-leads a life-group at her church, The Orchard—North Shore, where she also volunteers in planning women’s events.
