Tommy Gullberg, Intern

Tommy Gullberg InternAs a counseling intern at Steeple, Tommy offers something increasingly rare in today’s world: a genuine, reflective space where individuals can confront their challenges—not just to feel better, but to build the inner strength necessary to rise above life’s inevitable hardships. With a background rooted in ministry, nonprofit work, and the corporate world, Tommy brings a unique perspective that honors both the spiritual struggles and the pressures of modern life.

Originally from Wisconsin, Tommy earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His path shifted during his time in ministry, where he witnessed the deep psychological toll of the COVID-19 pandemic. Seeing a profound need for counseling that engages life’s deeper questions with wisdom and care, he decided to pursue dual master’s degrees in Mental Health Counseling and Theological Studies at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. His aim is to help people find not only emotional healing but also a deeper sense of purpose and meaning.
Tommy is passionate about working with men and women, but he has a heart for working with young men. He works primarily with teenagers and adults, addressing a variety of issues including mood disorders, anxiety, panic, OCD, stress, grief, melancholy, shame, co-dependence, life transitions, communication and relationship challenges, identity issues, and attachment difficulties.
Tommy is drawn to individuals who are searching for truth in a world that can often feel overwhelming and disenchanted. He values working with clients who are open to exploring their inner worlds and who are grappling with life’s challenges. For Tommy, the core of effective counseling is a strong, trusting relationship built on honesty, acceptance, and a shared journey toward transformation. He sees his role as walking alongside his clients, offering guidance and support as they navigate their personal paths toward healing.
In his work, Tommy draws from a range of therapeutic approaches, including cognitive, emotional, narrative, and existential theories. He sees people as holistic beings, with interwoven systems of mind, body, and soul that all influence each other. Through this lens, he helps clients explore meaning and purpose, reshape their personal narratives, and build the confidence and resilience needed to face life’s challenges. Tommy feels honored to walk with his clients as they grow, helping them heal and find renewed hope, equipped to live more purposeful and flourishing lives.
